Phonak EON

Phonak EON is Phonak's newest hearing aid, and it's the third version of their well-regarded Sphere technology. It keeps the strong "hearing in noise" performance that Sphere is known for, but packs it into a design that is noticeably smaller and lighter than before. EON is built around three ideas: helping you hear clearly, keeping you connected to your devices, and staying simple to use. It comes in a few versions, including a standard model, a lighter option, and a version for people who have hearing in only one ear. It works for everything from mild hearing loss to more significant hearing loss.

Hearing Better in Noisy Places

The biggest challenge for most people with hearing loss is following a conversation when there's noise all around, like in a restaurant or at a family gathering. EON tackles this with a feature called Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0. In simple terms, it uses smart technology to separate the voice you want to hear from the background noise, make that voice stronger, and then deliver it clearly to your ears.

Phonak reports that this can lead to up to 50% better speech understanding compared with older microphone technology, and that it takes less effort to listen, so you feel less worn out at the end of the day. It also helps you catch what people are saying no matter which direction they're speaking from. Results are different for everyone, and that 50% figure comes from comparing EON to earlier technology, not to natural hearing. One nice change is that this speech-clarity feature now comes in more models than before, not just the top-tier ones.

Automatic Adjustments and Wind Control

You shouldn't have to fiddle with your hearing aids every time you change rooms. EON uses a system called AutoSense OS AI 8.0 that senses your surroundings and adjusts on its own, so it can shift smoothly from a quiet living room to a busy street without you pressing any buttons.

Wind is another common frustration, since it can create an annoying rushing sound. A feature called WindBlock 2.0 quiets that wind noise while still letting you hear voices and the sounds around you. Phonak reports it can reduce wind noise significantly, and in their testing, more than 90% of people preferred how natural it sounded. This is helpful if you spend a lot of time walking, gardening, or being outdoors.

Staying Connected

EON connects easily to the devices you use every day. Thanks to its built-in Bluetooth, you can take phone calls hands-free and stream sound straight into your hearing aids from your phone, computer, tablet, or TV.

It also supports Auracast, a newer technology that lets you tune in to sound systems in public places like airports, theaters, museums, and places of worship, so announcements and performances come through directly in your ears. If you use a Phonak remote microphone (called Roger), EON works with that too. You can manage settings from the myPhonak app on your phone.

Comfort, Battery, and Charging

EON is 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the previous Sphere model, so it sits more discreetly and comfortably on your ear, and it comes in eight colors to match your preference. The rechargeable battery lasts more than a full day, up to about 22 hours even when you're streaming a lot or spending time in noisy places. Charging from empty to full takes about 2.5 hours, and there's an optional portable charging case with its own built-in battery, which is handy for travel or long days away from home.

Is Phonak EON Right for You?

EON is a good match if you have trouble hearing in restaurants and other noisy spots, go to meetings or social events, spend time outdoors where wind is a problem, or stream calls, music, and TV throughout the day. It's also a great option if you'd like a smaller Phonak hearing aid, want the newer Auracast feature, or need a solution for hearing loss in just one ear.
